It's not static content nowadays. Apart from video, posts and stories can be animated thanks to Canva!
Most people nowadays may not like reading. Or they find that photos or billboards are not enough to capture their attention. Thanks to Canva, social media posts and stories can be animated by bringing stickers to the latest trends in content design!
Who has been to VIVID Sydney over the last 10 years? Elements like colour, aesthetics, storytelling and movement could be the new ways of communication, especially with the top notch brands or artists willing to promote/present their work at night in the heart of the city.
Why Animate Using Canva
Here are three good reasons why you should animate your posts using Canva as if VIVID became virtual, for instance:
1: Ongoing Marketing Trend: Ultimately, video content thanks to Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts are dominating the crowded online world, and that most customers prefer to be more engaged and motivated while watching. For those new to Instagram or Facebook, you should post more videos than photos, maybe a carousel or two!
2: Competitive advantage: If brands want to stand out from the crowd, then animating posts and stories would assist them in gaining awareness from customers, particularly millennials and Generation Z. Perhaps it could be a huge sales event or a rave that is promoted, so do it with Canva to gain more engagement and stay with the latest design trends.
3: Grab attention to engage further: As mentioned earlier, static content or too much text is hated for today's audience, especially the Generation Z. This demographic market segment is known for being visual learners rather than good ole verbal compared to Baby Boomers. The simple formula: More visuals, less text, active movement! Start using Canva and get creative!
How to create animated posts using Canva
Post layout would be dependent on the social media platform (i.e. Instagram - 1080 x 1080 pixels). Here, I have created a mock Instagram carousel (in video format) of my personal brand and blogging content. You can view it here.
In no particular order, there are two methods that I have used to make your content fully interactive and moving:
1: Animated stickers/elements - If you haven't so already, start incorporating animated elements into your posts. Ultimately, you need to do so if you want more viewers and engagement. Recommended element keywords I have used are included below:
- Gradients (2D/3D)
- Neon
- Arrows
- Abstract
- Icons
- Anything you've searched for in previous designs, except filtered as 'animate'
- If you need a hand, just type the keyword '@canvaoriginalstickers. There are lots to choose from, most of which are free!
2: Adding animations to static elements such as shapes, images and text: For static content. Remember those recently used elements such as icons, shapes, abstract etc. Do you have any text in your content? Simply click on a page or element and the button that says 'Animate' on the top of the interface. Now with so many animations to choose from (only Canva Pro members can customise speed and direction), you are about to spread the word through movement!
The difference being is that only static elements can be entry/exit animated, so make sure there are some animated stickers in your design.
Once you are finished, you can download your design as a video format, ready to post on social media (Facebook - Both laptop and mobile phone, Instagram - mobile phone only)
How to create animated stories using Canva
The same applies to stories, except the dimensions are a vertical version of the standard video format (1920 x 1080 pixels). The huge benefit of using stories is that they are easy to cross-post between platforms, even on YouTube as shorts. Remember, don't forget to animate those static elements!
Conclusion
Say goodbye to those static graphical elements, and Canva can help you create moving content thanks to their robust library of free elements. The formula of "More visuals, less text, active movement!" can assist you in future designs which is really simple to follow. Don't forget that if you are targeting millennials and Generation Z, they will be motivated and engaged with their favourite brands through exciting video content posted online; there is no room for boredom!
Would you continue to post content online that is static (e.g. photos, infographics or PDFS)? Do you use Canva or other software to create content containing motion graphics or animations? Feel free to comment below.
